| Description THE LULO REINHARDT LATIN SWING PROJECT combines pure gypsy swing with elements of Latin music such as flamenco, tango and bossa nova. The upcoming CD about to be released consists of 12 new original gypsy swing and latin compositions by Lulo Reinhardt.
Sinti gypsy guitarist, Lulo Reinhardt, first learned to play the guitar with his father at the age of five. While growing up Lulo was surrounded by music all the time and was constantly playing with those around him. According to Lulo on his musical upbringing, "My father gave me my grandfather's Django Reinhardt model guitar. My father showed me my first chords too. After that I rehearsed every day with my cousin Mike. Whenever the family got together, which was all the time, we played for birthdays, weddings, communions, always learning and playing Django's songs. Lulo's first concert was in 1973 playing with the Mike Reinhardt Sextet in front of an audience of four thousand people. "It was here that I jumped in the deep water. It was here that I felt like a musician and knew that was what I was born to be. I was twelve years old." Since his early years, Lulo Reinhardta's music has taken him all over the world. Lulo has toured all over Europe, gone to Spain in search of Flamenco roots and to South America to explore various kinds of Latin music for example. Constant travel and exploration of other musical forms has brought many influences from outside Europe to Luloa's music thus making him a very unique musician among other gypsy players. On describing the music he plays, "My music is a combination of gypsy swing, Latin, samba, flamenco and jazz. My own projects number one and two reveal my character and essence. For me however, the most important thing is to play with different musicians. It is in this way that I can experience different cultures and different ways of playing. I mix different styles with my own and experiment with everything I hear." The Lulo Reinhardt Latin Swing Project, consists of violinist Daniel Weltlinger from Sydney, Australia, bassist Harald Becher from Germany, and guitarist Doug Martin from San Francisco, USA. The group has performed in the USA and Europe together and most recently did a tour of Shanghai, China in October 2007 playing their unique blend of gypsy swing and Latin music while exploring Far Eastern musical sounds and influences. |
