About Space180

space180 is a new arts venue and gallery space located in the heart of San Francisco's Mission District. administered by API arts nonprofit Kearny Street Workshop (KSW), space180 is currently the home of KSW as well as fellow API arts organizations Locus Arts & Tactile Pictures. our vision is to provide a permanent home for API artists and community members.

space180 opened its doors in August 2005 and is already a thriving arts venue, hosting several events a week and drawing hundreds of artists and audience members each month. the space is roughly 1800 square feet with hardwood floors, tracklighting (with dimmers), and movable platforms for staging.

" One of the key themes explored by this modest show of pieces by local Asian American artists it that of Asians themselves as the object of a fetish. Walk down the street anywhere in San Francisco or the Bay Area , and you’ll spot several instances of what are uncharitably referred to as “rice kings” (or queens) -- tall, handsome and rich white guys with Asian girlfriends (or boyfriends). This phenomena does excite strange emotions in otherwise fair-minded people... "
