Description
The brilliant and charismatic composer/pianist Omar Sosa celebrates his new Otá CD Afreecanos with a four-night stay at Yoshi’s. “Sosa’s music is the unifying sort, yoking together Africa and jazz and Latin America and hip-hop. He makes it work, being one of those rare birds whose keyboard skills are near those of Chick Corea or Chucho Valdés” (Ben Ratliff, New York Times). His quartet includes Childo Tomas, from Mozambique, on electric bass and m’bira; Mola Sylla, from Senegal, on vocals, m’bira, xalam, and kongoman; and Marque Gilmore, drums and electronics.
