Gallery of California Art
Selections from the museum's permanent collection include approximately 600 works in a variety of media, including paintings, sculptures, prints, photographs and decorative arts in the collection. The installation traces the development of artistic expression in California from the early 1800s to the present. Art Department, third level.

California: A Place, A People, A Dream
The Cowell Hall of California History displays the most extensive collection of material related to California's complex history. This permanent exhibit of more than 6,000 artifacts illustrates major events and trends that have shaped the state, from the pre-European-contact world of the region's native peoples to the complex, technological world of today. History Department, second level.

Walk Across California
The Hall of California Ecology takes the visitor on a simulated journey through California's diverse ecosystems, observing plants and animals found from the Pacific coastline to the High Sierra and the inland desert. Exhibits contain approximately 2,500 natural specimens organized around basic ecological principles highlighting relationships among plants, animals, geology and climate. The Aquatic California Gallery presents an overview of our aquatic environments, including the oceans, rivers and streams and estuaries. Natural Sciences Department, first level.
