Oakland and East Bay Bars and Clubs - Oakland Sports Bars

Don't try walking into a sports bar in Oakland donning red and gold—the Raider Nation isn't forgiving. It's all silver and black here. During away games, Oakland's sports bars turn into the Black Hole with hard-core fans adding to the rowdy atmosphere. Of course it's not all about football. Baseball fans come out to support the A's and to drink with fellow fans in the comfort of a bar: drinks in glasses rather than plastic cups, comfortable seating and instant replays from TVs throughout the bars are just a few of the luxuries. Basketball games are also becoming more popular since the Golden State Warriors' surprising 2006-2007 season. Of course, true Warriors fans have been drowning their sorrows and toasting to victory in places like George and Walt's through all the heartache and happiness. Oakland's sports bars provide excitement for those who want to get in the mix with true fans on game day.

Wildcard Bar and Grill

10 Hegenberger Rd., Oakland, California; Tel. 510.567.8945
With a dance club, sports bar, and hotel all in one, the Wildcard Bar and Grill is set up for some serious partying. It has four different areas of dance space—the hippest one being by the hotel pool—each bumping from a variety of DJ stylings; huge projection TVs for the tragically myopic and awesome daily drink specials. Did you catch that first part about the attached 74 room hotel? Okay then, enough said.

George and Walt's

5445 College Ave., Oakland, California; Tel. 510.653.7441
Try to find a seat at George and Walt's during a Raider's away game; go ahead, we'll wait. You simply can't do it. An inviting and comfortable neighborhood bar in the Rockridge District during the week, G&W's gets transformed into the Raider Nation on Sundays, making it a raucous sports bar. The drinks are no-frills, straightforward bar type, although G&W's does have a fine list of hot drinks for those chilly Oakland winter mornings, or noons, or nights.

End Zone

1466 High St., Oakland, California; Tel. 510.536.9332
Bust out your Silver and Black and take in the End Zone, a sports bar shrine to all things Raiders. But, that's not the only thing this haven for sports fans has going for it. End Zone also has a bumpin' singles scene with choice hip-hop DJs presiding over the dance floor like Al Davis does his team. Most nights the dance club aspect supplants the sports bar one, especially on the weekends where there is a dress code, so accessorize accordingly; that means don your dress up gray sweats with your new jersey and hat on Sundays.

Golden Bear Sports Bar

389 Grand Ave., Oakland, California; Tel. 510.663.2327
Here's something you don't see enough of in sports bars today: stadium seating. Golden Bear Sports Bar has padded bleachers for those of you who want that authentic ballpark feel without the ballpark prices and plastic cups. On Sundays, the bar is wall-to-wall Silver and Black, and the devotion doesn't change much with the change of sports seasons. Golden Bear Sports Bar can get pretty rowdy, but it's all in good testosterone-driven fun.

King's X Bar

4401 Piedmont Ave., Oakland, California; Tel. 510.653.4200
Stiff drinks and an everybody knows your name atmosphere prevail at King's X Bar, a long standing neighborhood establishment. Many an after work patron call this watering hole home and that crowd gives way to a younger set later in the evening who bop their heads to some DJ stylings on Fridays. With a friendly bar staff, free flowing drinks, and even a seperate pool room, it's no wonder why King's X is one of our favorite neighborhood bars.
