Description

"Poets are magpies," says instructor Alison Luterman, "stealing images, scraps of dialogue, and the flotsam and jetsam of everyday life for their nests. A poem is that nest, built out of the twigs and ribbons of ordinary words. This small container creates a space which enables consciousness to fly. In this class, which is an abbreviated version of the five-week Magpie class, we’ll do some reading of contemporary poets, paying attention to sound, image, voice, and meaning. We’ll let ourselves drown in their language and, possibly, re-emerge changed people. And we’ll also plunge in to some in-class writing (exercises) and sharing.
