"The Acts," as they're commonly known, have been one of the East Bay's premiere homes to first-run foreign language cinema and independent film since its opening in 1971. The theatre is entrenched in the heart of the Downtown Berkeley scene, within walking distance of coffeehouses, sidewalk cafes and various shopping opportunities. The building in which the Acts reside is over 70 years old, having formerly been a furniture store, a shoe store and a children's clothing boutique before emerging in its current form as a movie theatre.
