| Description Jorge Rodolfo De Hoyos mostly introduces himself with Spanish pronunciation, but he is also known to call himself "George". Born in Los Angeles, he went to the University of California, Santa Cruz where he got a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology and a graduate certificate in Theater Arts. He got his early dance training by harassing his sisters and friends to dance salsa and swing with him whenever he felt the music. In Santa Cruz he was co-director of Grupo Folklorico Los Mejicas de UCSC, directed his own dance-theater pieces, and went to the beach religiously. He recently moved to San Francisco to plug into and absorb the local dance community, and he is loving every minute of it. Jorge is also a developing movie buff and constantly strives to be more like foreign/ classic film actors. De Hoyos will be collaborating with Tunuviel Luv, a Theater Arts graduate from UC Santa Cruz. The two performers will be developing a new experimental dance-theater piece exploring concepts of time and the search for an ultimate truth between two people who experiment on and exploit each other in service of their pursuits.
Pearl Marill catapulted herself out of her mother's womb on Thanksgiving day 25 years ago with a purple face and an unstoppable zest for life. Today, nothing has changed. The director of her recently formed company entitled PumpDance Theater, Pearls interests lie in observing and re-creating the awkward and beautiful moments of life through dance and theater. She received her B.A. in Theater Arts from UC Santa Cruz in 2005 and has trained at The American Dance Festival in North Carolina and at American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. Pearl has involved herself in various projects in San Francisco, including work with Lila Improvisational Theater, JumpTheater, The DramaMamas, Too Far Productions, New Conservatory Theater, and U Dance Electra. Her work has been shown at The Garage, The 8th St. Studios, CounterPulse, and at most recently at the Travelling Jewish Theater. Denia Dance (Felice Ana Denia, artistic director and choreographer). Felice began her classical training with Eugene Ballet School and went on to perform and tour as an apprentice with Eugene Ballet Company. Her later training includes Ballet Pacifica Conservatory and the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance, as well as two years of semi-private coaching with Jayne Persch. Her professional performing experience includes Dance Theatre of Oregon, Ballet Pacifica, and HerPic Productions. In fall of 2006 she started her own dance company, called Fadna and Company. This company became Denia Dance in January of 2008. The company presents "Trees and Shadows", a new piece that questions sensuality, strength, and gentleness; themes that are explored in the medium of ballet-based contemporary movement. The rich compositions of Loreena McKennitt inspire, reflect and support a company of radiant, connected dancers. SAFEhouse for the Performing Arts (Saving Art From Extinction) @ The Garage is a non-profit arts presenting organization that specializes in incubating new performing art through residencies, workshops and performance. The Garage is the home of the raw & uncut performance showcase, RAW (resident artists’ workshop), SPF and AIRspace (queer performing artists residency program). |
