Description
The Museum of Performance & Design (MPD), formerly the San Francisco Performing Arts Library & Museum, unveils its new identity, its new gallery, and a brand-new exhibition. Art & Artifice is MPD’s contribution to the landmark celebration of San Francisco Ballet’s three-quarters of a century of excellence. The history of design at SFB is the story of ballet design in America, from the early influences of the Ballets Russes to the most celebrated contemporary designers. Original costumes and set renderings by world-renowned designers ranging from Tony Duquette and Irene Sharaff to Tony Walton and Karinska fill the show, along with photographs and video of many of the company’s most memorable ballets and dancers.
