Description

Pianist and composer Ahmad Jamal is one of jazz’s premier stylists as well as a deeply influential and inspiring figure in the music. That has been the case for more than half a century, and Jamal shows no signs of resting on his laurels. He continues to tour internationally, honors continue to come his way (most recently he was inducted into France’s Order of Arts and Letters for his exceptional accomplishments in “American Classical Music”), and he is still exploring new territory in the recording studio. Jamal’s new CD It’s Magic, due on June 10 from Birdology/Dreyfus, features his longtime trio—bassist James Cammack and the great drummer Idris Muhammad—augmented by percussionist Manolo Badrena, the same group that will join him onstage at Yoshi’s Oakland and San Francisco.
