Textured color flow abstractions on canvas painted with tempra, acrylic, oil paint, metallic powder can be seen in a solo show of sixty-four new paintings during the month of June in Berkeley "I live on the Hayward Fault in East Oakland. A year ago, fearing the next big quake, I moved out of my house and prepared it for sale. Then the mortgage crisis hit." "With great trepidation, I moved back into my house." "It then occurred to me that painting on the fault line might actually help exorcise these fears. Using the colors and flow of paint on the canvas, I might also be able to create a dialog with the spirit angels that live in the fault." "And so these paintings became energy dances in time, power grids of consciousness etched in the living universe. They have synthesized my search for meaning and pattern amid the churning waves of Chaos: individual, social, and temporal, and have exorcised many of my fears of living on the fault." ----------------------------------------------------- Shelli Renee Joye began working as a lighting consultant to Andy Warhol at the Factory in New York in 1969 and began painting in her own loft on Greene Street in 1970. She has exhibited in Italy, Texas, Berkeley, Saudi Arabia, Emeryville and Kharkov in the Ukraine. Her style has been characterized as “color flow field” paintings with vibrant contrasting hues, textues, and value. She studied physics, mathematics and philosophy in college and has a B.S. and an M.A. She lived and painted for nineteen years in Saudi Arabia. She is a practicing contemplative attached to a monastery in Berkeley and currently has a studio in the east Oakland hills where she lives."
